The Watts/Century Latino Organization (WCLO) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to supporting the development of healthy neighborhoods and self-sufficient families. Its core geographic service area is the Watts community serving residents within the greater Watts community including residents of the four public housing developments: Jordan Downs, Imperial Courts, Nickerson Gardens, and Gonzaque Village. This organization was created in 1990 the spirit of multiculturalism and community unity. Working with public and private sector agencies, WCLO engages in comprehensive community development projects and programs that promote:
Civic action and engagement
Community economic and human development
Education improvement
Community safety, and
Cultural awareness, equity and unity.
WCLO has consistently provided family stability and resident empowerment and advocacy services. This includes tenant case management services, financial education, and food security resources. Additionally, WCLO provides free foreclosure education and counseling to prevent homeowners from losing their homes due to sub-prime mortgages. For over three decades, WCLO has sponsored the Multicultural Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Watts, an annual multi-cultural event providing free lunches to 500+ participants. For 30 years, WCLO has also hosted its signature program, Navidad En El Barrio, which provides food baskets to 500+ participant families with enough groceries to generate meals for a family of four for two+ weeks over the holiday season.
